Sandy Hook is a 2,044 acre barrier peninsula that offers seven miles of beaches, salt marshes, hiking trails, and a maritime holly forest. There is a five mile paved pathway for bicycling, in-line skating and walking. The Sandy Hook Lighthouse and Fort Hancock and the Sandy Hook Proving Ground are National Historic Landmarks.

Sandy Hook's hours of operation are:

November 1st-March 31st: 6:00am-8:00pm.

April 1st-October 31st: 5:00am-10:00pm.

There is a beach parking fee of $10 from Memorial Day Weekend to Labor Day. Lifeguards are on duty from 10 a.m. to 6p.m. during the summer.
